KORE
KORE is a 2D pixel-art role-playing game, started in 2018. It is a story driven game in which the player assumes the role as Bryan Hill, a teenage anthropoid fox, and Amy Hill, the older sister of Bryan.
Benjamin Hill, the father of the two children, went missing during an expedition. After hearing the news, Amy had to take care of Bryan until a solution can be found. Years later, a dark force, known as the Corruption, terrorizes the town of Uplane, forcing the children to flee. They meet up with Dr. Calvin, a old friend of Benjamin, who reveals the possible cause of Benjamin’s disappearance and the origin of the Corruption. Dr. Calvin describes a prophecy in which two young heroes rise against the Corruption and save the universe from total darkness by venturing to unknown worlds, retrieving relics known as “Core Hearts”, and combining them all at the center of the universe to rid all evil. After a thoughtful consideration, the children agree to go on the adventure. Alongside the primary goal, the children are determined to find clues on their father’s whereabouts and rescue him from the darkness.
KORE takes inspiration from the Mario & Luigi series in which the player controls both characters simultaneously throughout the game, in both the overworld and in battle. The player’s goal in KORE is to explore 12 unique worlds, fight against the forces of the Corruption and other threats, and make allies. The player can also make major decisions that can change the direction of the story and characters. Making wrong decisions could lead to a bad ending of the game; for example, the children never found their father Benjamin as a result of not finding clues.
This project has been in long thought, but development has not progressed as the game is still in concept. However, there are screenshots and video clips shown below that showcase these concepts of what the game could be like. Assets are not final.

The following clip showcases how the player would control Bryan in overworld mode. The Hill House, Bryan and Amy’s house, is the only playable location at the moment. Some objects are interactable which display dialogue (most of which is Bryan talking about the object that was interacted). The character menu is not functional as it is a concept.
The following clip showcases what a battle could look and feel like in KORE. It takes heavy inspiration from the Mario & Luigi series. I plan to implement similar mechanics from the Mario & Luigi series to where the player can control both characters and perform special attacks that requires both characters.
